Thursday: "Pretty is as Pretty Does" By Mandatory Volunteer
(Part Six)I was glad when the bell rang for class to be over. I sped out of there as fast as I could before anyone could really comprehend that I was wearing another boy’s clothing. Although truth be told, I don’t really think anyone cared, or noticed. They were too busy pointing at me, and staring.
“Hello dearest. May I ask where you’re going this last period of school?” Nathaniel popped up next to me with a grin on his face, his hands behind his back.
“T-the choir room.” I felt my cheeks get hot and mentally reprimanded myself for stuttering. Even if it was only a little stutter.
“Oh! I guess you’re quite the singer if you’re in the competition show choir! I didn’t realize that-” Then there was a resounding screech through the hallway, and it made me just want to throw myself into a locker and cry.
“Nathan! What ARE you doing hanging out with that, that… That thing?!” I let out a really long, frustrated sigh and just kept walking, trying to breathe away the ringing in my ears.
“Clairissa, that’s not a really nice thing to say about your sister.” He still walked with me though, and gave me an apologetic smile.
“Excuse me. My foster sister. She’s not even my real one. I don’t even know how we’re related.”
“We’re distant cousins.”
“Whatever, I didn’t ask you.” She flipped her perfect hair again and turned her attention to Nathaniel and cooed at him as she wrapped her arm around his.
“Come walk me to class.”
“No. You know where your class is.” He slipped his arm out of her claws- I mean arms. And then gently led me down another hallway. But he stopped as soon as we turned the corner and leaned back to give her a quick little wave then ran down the hallway to catch up to me.
I heard another resounding screech and laughed a little bit. I think I’m gonna like this Nathaniel kid.
